Laser treatment of wrist pain, tingling and weakness

WHAT IS LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY?

Low-level laser therapy is a painless, sterile, non-invasive and drug free treatment. It’s used to treat a variety of pain syndromes, injuries, wounds, fractures, neurological conditions and pathologies. Laser therapy can be used anytime a patient request or needs a drugless procedure for the control of pain or when the acceleration of healing from injuries is desired.

HOW DOES IT WORK? I MEAN, AREN’T LASERS HOT?

These lasers are just what they say they are; therapuetic. Surgical lasers (cutting lasers) are a completely different animal and they can be very hot, but very precise. That’s not what I am talking about. The healing properties of therapeutic lasers are not base on heat. They are based on the photo chemical and photo biological effect in cell tissues. There’s no harm done to healthy cells, but if a cell is impaired these effects stimulate the impaired cell’s function. According to over 25 years of world research low level laser therapy is known to:

  • increase cell metabolism
  • increase the actions of the immune system
  • increase new growth in capillaries
  •  increase life supporting changes in organisms ( like human beings)

SOUNDS LIKE LASERS ARE THE ANSWER TO ALL OUR PROBLEMS
Well that's probably putting it too simply. Therapeutic lasers are the answer to many peoples’ pain  and function challenges because of what the lasers stimulate in the patient’s own body. What that means is everyone is different and the results will be different.  It all depends on the patient’s health status when they come to the office for treatment. The best results are achieved when :

Sound medical judgments are used:

The doctor performs a sufficient history and examination with a diagnosis.

The doctor listens to the patient and uses good intuitive skills in designing treatment.

 HOW LONG WILL TREATMENT TAKE?

Since the effects of low-level laser therapy are cumulative it depends on the type of injury the patient presents with. For most acute pain the treatment frequency is usually closer together. Sometimes they can be as much as every day for the first three treatments. Spacing becomes important after that initial exposure. For chronic pain sufferers they can expect more spacing right away. For example, a patient may be treated once every third day or so for 2 weeks then once a week for the next few weeks with a week or two rest.  That gives the body time to utilize the stimulus to the fullest degree while the patient observes their recovery.

It’s important to know when treatment is seemingly not working. I usually stop treatment if there are no noticeable effects after five or six treatments. There may be a delayed healing response. Then treatment can resume.

Laser therapy might be just what you're looking for; a painless non-invasive way to recovery because "It's not about getting better, it's about getting your life back."  TM - Dr. Donald L. Fitzgerald
